An English translation by Munagala Venkataramiah of this ancient Sanskrit work on Advaita philosophy. The Maharshi considered this to be one of the greatest works expounding the traditional teachings of Advaita and often quoted the verses which are full of divine nectar. This work will quench the thirst of any earnest seeker who repeatedly reflects on its meaning and attempts to apply the teaching.306pp

Tripura Rahasya edition by Sri Dattatreya Sadhu Arunachala Venkataramaiah Muagala Venkataramaiah Munagala Religion Spirituality eBooks

This book is the cream of classical Indian literature. It is unique in that is not just instructive but fascinating to read. It is as gripping as a good novel. Not something one would expect of a classic written many hundreds of years before the printing press was invented in Europe.

It gives a thorough unfolding of the roots of Indian mysticism, specifically Advaita (non duality) and will be very interesting to contemplatives of any faith. Practitioners of Tibetan Dzogchen who would like to have sense of what Indian thought was like a little closer to the time when Padmasambhava went to proselytize in Tibet should find it especially intriguing.

Sri Ramana Maharshi recommended this book above all others expounding the traditional teachings of Advaita. It will be as invaluable to anyone with an interest in Jnana Yoga as it will young Indian people growing up overseas who would like to know more about the rich, spiritual background of their culture.

I would particularly recommend it to anyone who has studied at the Oneness University in India who would like to deepen their background in Advaita which is what the Oneness phenomenon is all about.

Another book that is a wonderful simplification of Advaita and can be read over and over again is Maha Yoga by "Who". Yet another important classic is "The Crest Jewel of Wisdom" by Sankarachara, translated by Mohoni Chatterji. These are all books which were recommended during his lifetime by Ramana Maharshi, probably the most revered of Indian Sages of recent times. If you would like to know more about him, there is a good biography written during his lifetime and approved by the Maharshi - `'Self Realization`' by Narasimha Swami.
